Hi guys!
We haven’t touched base for a while so we’d thought we’d let you know some of the BIG news around the E37 camp.

NEW SHOW! – Firstly we’d like to say that E37 are proud to announce the first “Alcatraz” rock night at the new rock club in St Kilda, The GH. Formerly (The Greyhound)
Thursday October the 13th will see the beginning of what we believe to quickly become one of Melbourne’s flagship rock nights. Joining us for the evening will be the one and lonely “I Am Duck Eye”.
This show hasn’t been officially announced, but keep you eyes out as the promo hits the wall next week. This venue is seriously of f the chain folks, well worth a look.

CREEPSHOW 2011. – This night last year was more exciting than trying to catch a giant porcupine in a balloon factory. This year it will be bigger again, and we’ve given the porcupine lines of K (and if you can guess what we will be wearing, I’ll come to your place and hand feed you grapes – Casey).
The DVD – is getting close to completion. If you were at the amazing gig we shot on the 28th May at the Evelyn, then don’t you worry. You’re in it.

HAVE IT ALL FILM CLIP. – For those of you that missed out, the film clip for ‘Have It All’ is the next project in the tube once we put the DVD to bed. We’re looking at a Mid Nov launch.
Thanks so much for everyone’s help with all of the above… fun times ahead…

E37 Crew.

ROCK THE BAY VS

That’s right – continuing our Rock The Bay versus series of throwing two bands from the lineup into a wet hessian sack, here’s local heavy-rock heroes Engine Three Seven and Bellsuira duking it out.

CRYSTAL (BELLUSIRA) hassles CASEY (ENGINE THREE SEVEN)…

What’s the inspiration behin d the lyrics for the latest EP Atmosphere?

“I dedicated more time to the lyrics for Atmosphere than I have for any other project thus far. I wanted each track to have its own story, but at the same time, leave enough room for the listener’s interpretation.”

How did you enjoy your tour in New Zealand last year?

“Our wee trip of NZ was absolutely awesome. It had been a while since the boys and I had hit the road together and we hit it pretty hard. Of course the highlight was catching up with you guys in Auckland and truly showing the Kiwis how a throng of Aussie musos tear up a venue!”

Is it true that you like to get your gear off occasionally when aroundfriends, or at New Years functions?

“I’m not sure where you hear these crazy rumours. I like to get my gear off as often as possible social functions. Pigeon-holing me into only creating nudity based on awkward moments at any one particular style of event is simply ridiculous and downright offensive.”

What are the plans this year for Engine?

“We’ve been in hiding for a few months, jamming and working on our show. We really cant say too much but some big announcements coming up. Keep your eyes and ears on enginethreeseven.com.”

W hat would an alternative career choice have been for you?

“I can’t vouch for the other three lads (although I’m sure Shane is still trying for ‘pornstar’), but I was actually studying to be a kindergarten teacher throughout high school. Somehow, somewhere… something went very wrong.”

Please explain what “Biddley Boh” means?

“It’s an old Hebrew expression which came to be pronounced ‘Biddily Boh’. Both scholars and well noted linguists alike, maintain that its original pronunciation was ‘Bing Boddily Biddliy Baaaa’ but over the ages became abbreviated into that familiar term, ‘Boh’.”

CASEY (ENGINE THREE SEVEN) hassles CRYSTAL (BELLUSIRA)…

How did you come up with the concept for your latest film clip?

“We brainstormed ideas as a band; we wanted a setting of the world being demolished and ruined, as the idea behind the lyrics was that – even if the world was ending – all that was really important were the relationships you build here. We’ve gone through quite a profound stage of spiritual awakening which is what the orbs represent metaphorically. We decided to give the film crew our dream idea of a film clip imagining we have no budget. All but one minor idea was actually used which blew our minds and they added to our ideas giving it a Tank Girl-esque theme.”

You recently had a lineup change. Has this changed the dynamic of the band?

“Since our lineup change last year the band has evolved into something else entirely, I’ve never had the pleasure of working with four other members that work so well together, have the same passion for music, and great respect for one another. That’s resonating in the music we are writing now. Sadly Adam our drummer had his last show with us in January due to illness: he will be greatly missed but still our best bud. Luckily we have found an awesome replacement. If you haven’t seen Bellusira for a while, wipe out what you knew the band as before and come and check us out at Rock The Bay!”

What are your rehearsals generally like?

“We have set times planned out a month in advance. We have built a studio out the back of our house, so almost every day we are either working on writing our album or rehearsing for the tour.”

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

“Work with people you love and respect and have the same passion and commitment as you do. Music is a powerful and magical tool, make music for the right reasons and not for your ego.”

What can one expect from Bellusira at Rock The Bay this March 12?

“New tunes, new drummer, slicker production, visual animation, full lighting show, and our most rounded set to date.”

Both BELLUSIRA and ENGINE THREE SEVEN play ROCK THE BAY when it returns to The Espy on Labour Day long weekend Saturday March 12 – alongside Barbarion, Sydonia, The Beards, Electric Horse, New Skinn, Tim McMillan Band, Redcoats, Alba Varden, Xenograft, Don Fernando, The Khyber Belt and heaps more. Tickets are on sale now from saltar.oztix.com.au, The Espy, Polyester Records, Missing Link, Fist 2 Face, Greville Records and The Nash (Geelong).

ENGINE THREE SEVEN LIVE AT THE EVELYN

Like something out of a movie, the journey of Engine Three Seven so far is a moving tale. A group of small-town boys move to the big city and, unperturbed by the bright lights and plentiful distractions, they quickly become one of Australia’s most promising up and coming bands…

A couple of years ago when I first met Engine Three Seven and saw them live, I was mesmerized by their captivating presence and technical performance, absolutely befuddled at how many musical hooks and melodies they managed to lace into every song. And all of this from four of the friendliest, most down to earth lads one could ever wish to know. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen Engine Three Seven perform, but gig after gig, as impossible as it seems, they seem to keep getting better. This performance was no exception. In fact, I have never witnessed a performance quite like it.

Stepping into the busy venue, the space seemed energised. It became evident quite quickly that this night was different, that there was a closeness between everyone present and an underlying shared emotion. Engine Three Seven lost a very dear friend only the day before, who many of us knew, a beautiful young woman by the name of Emma. Everybody at The Evelyn seemed to know of this, and to understand that the shared emotion was loss, with an overwhelming sense of love and appreciation for one another – the night was dedicated to her.

Engine Three Seven kicked off their set with Easy Graceful Descent, with their emotion shown through the intensity of their performance and connection with the crowd. It was difficult not to be pulled in by the band’s presence. Next up was Automatic Everything and the audience bounced along while rocking out with them – most also singing at the top of their lungs. Then onto their new EP’s namesake, Atmosphere and	Battle Line Breath, which drew out emotional responses from many in the audience with the slower melodies and crescendo laden choruses.

They followed with Erasure and Adults Only, and the intensity seemed to build even more when they began their crowd pleaser	Cops – frontman Casey Dean spoke candidly between songs about their loss, friends called out from the crowd saying that Emma was there, she was watching, and the emotion broke through, cutting Casey off and left what was obvious unsaid. The band prepared to play Have It All as Casey invited singer Ezekiel Ox (Over-Reactor, Mammal, Full Scale) to join him on stage. The two belted out the song in unison, Ox doing it justice with a signature high-energy performance. An avalanche of power as they both bounced off each other, metaphorically grabbing the audience by the scruff of the neck.

They ended with the brilliant Hysterical Hysteria. Casey spoke before the song began, unable to complete what he’d started to say… “This is a song about a girl I met in Byron and…” he said, not finishing the sentence. He didn’t need to.

It was one hell of a night with one audience member mentioning that it was his first time seeing Engine Three Seven live, that it was the most amazing live show he’d ever seen, and that they should be the biggest band in Australia. Agreed.
(For Emma)

ENGINE THREE SEVEN

Atmosphere (EP) (Independent)

Engine Three Seven are a real enigma. Forming in Byron Bay in 2004, and re-planting themselves in Melbourne in 2008 , they seam to have drawn influence from each of these very disparate locales on each of the two EPs that they’ve so far released. The first self-titled EP was written before the relocation and reflects the softer, more sumptuous surrounds of that sun-drenched northern NSW coastal town. The sound is more folky, more acoustic, more ambient while still rocking out when it needs to.

This new EP Atmosphere – written and recorded since the relocation to the comparatively dark, hard and bleak atmosphere of hard rock loving Melbourne – is, unsurprising, harder and darker in tone, with the acoustic guitars having almost disappeared. Double kick drumming is more prominent. The guitars bite harder. It’s more ‘prog’. The influence of the surroundings of the artist may be more of a subconcious thing in most cases, but here it is undeniable.

However, that’s not to say there’s not plenty of the EP’s title taking up residence within the grooves of Atmosphere. There is, in fact, shitloads of atmosphere. That’s one of the long list of elements that make Engine Three Seven so damn good; the ambience amid the hard alternative rock. They possess a sound that’s indefinable, as they’re like nothing else going on right now. And one gets the very strong feeling that this is exactly the way they like it – likewise for their growing hoards of fans.

The true scope, however, of Engine Three Seven’s sound probably won’t be fully realised or appreciated until they release a full album. As is so often the case, a six-track EP simply isn’t enough. At the Moment, we will have to satiate ourselves with seeing them live and loud (where they go extremely hard) and hanging out for their debut long-player. Which hopefully won’t be too far away.
